Hi! My name is Josh Porter and I am an independent curator, photographer, writer, and designer currently based out of Lexington, KY. As a curator, I am dedicated to elevating and showcasing the significant contributions of contemporary artists, particularly those who are often underrepresented. In that work, I place a large emphasis on queer art and storytelling. This commitment extends beyond traditional gallery spaces as I strive to foster more intimate engagements between art and communities.
I currently serve as the Assistant Executive Director of the Faulkner Morgan Archive, a Kentucky-based institution with a dedicated focus on sharing Kentucky’s LQBTQ history. Through my work with FMA, I have seen the impact that collecting, archiving, and exhibiting queer stories can have. My desire to work with queer artists and queer narratives drives my professional work. Being an active member of the LGBTQ+ community is integral to my identity, and I actively celebrate the rich tapestry of queer experiences through my work.
In 2023, I earned my MFA in Curatorial Studies from the University of Kentucky, following the completion of a B.A. in Studio Art and Art History from Transylvania University in 2019. With a portfolio encompassing both physical and digital exhibitions, I seamlessly integrate my photography and graphic design expertise into shows. If you are a gallery, museum, artist, or curator, please reach out! I am passionate about collaborating on innovative projects that elevate queer art and storytelling, and I look forward to exploring potential opportunities with like-minded creatives.
